Reflection

As we say goodbye to this year
and welcome the next,
we often say, “New year, new me.”

We look back at what we’ve done
this year and wonder,
“What does the new year have in store for me?”

It has been a year,
a year filled with every emotion imaginable.
We were sad and happy,
depressed and hopeful,
tired, joyous, crying, angry.
We felt exhausted, betrayed, loved, hated,
jealous, envious, agitated, lonely, scared,
infuriated. everything at once.

And yet, here we are,
standing at the edge of the year,
ready to close this chapter
and step into another.

We don’t know what awaits us,
but we anticipate it.
We plan for it.
We feel it.
We hope for the best.

Oh, this year; let it end now.

I tried until the very end.
The outcome may not be what I expected,
but I am hopeful,
because a new year means another chance.

I faced it all,
and I came out,
not victorious,
but stronger at the foundation.

I’ve learned lessons
I will carry with me.
I’m leaving behind
what caused me pain and depression.

I’m taking a new route,
one I’ve never taken before.
I’ve been redirected.
I’ve found a new path.

So yes,
new year, new me,
literally.
